Overview
Electricity is one of the most serious hazards faced by arborists and remains the leading cause of fatalities in the tree care industry, accounting for approximately 15% of all worker deaths.
The danger extends far beyond high-voltage transmission lines. Even streetlight circuits, service drops, and communication lines can become energized with enough voltage to cause serious injury or death. Workers do not have to make direct contact with an energized conductor to be electrocuted—approximately half of all electrocution fatalities result from indirect contact through tree branches, tools, equipment, or other conductive objects.
Every arborist must be trained to recognize and avoid electrical hazards. Arborists performing Electrical Level 3 and Level 4 work require advanced knowledge of electrical hazards and the specialized work practices necessary to safely operate near energized conductors.
Join us for this Electrical Hazards Awareness Program (EHAP) workshop, made possible through a grant from the Tree Care Industry Association's (TCIA) Arborist Safety Training Institute (ASTI).
Class size is limited to 30

Led by a TCIA Qualified Trainer, this interactive workshop will cover:
- Identifying overhead and underground electrical hazards on the job site
- Understanding minimum approach distances around energized conductors
- Safe work practices for crews operating near power lines
- Emergency response procedures for electrical contact incidents
In addition, find out with our Oncor partners’ assistance what happens when electrical hazards are ignored with the ARC Trailer presentation! We all need to know what, when, and how to report electrical hazards and Oncor will be there to answer our questions.
